KEARNEY — The Nebraska Coaches Association has recognized the Kearney High School Girls’ Basketball Team as one of the top academic teams in the state for the 2024-2025 school year.
The team earned the prestigious Girls Basketball Team Academic Excellence Award, given to programs with a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher during the fall semester or third quarter.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Drew Danielson, the team not only excelled on the court but also demonstrated an exceptional commitment to academic success.
“I am incredibly proud of these young women for the way they represented Kearney High School both athletically and academically this season,” said Coach Danielson. “This award reflects the high standards that we have set and is a testament to the culture we are building within the program.”
The Nebraska Coaches Association’s Academic Excellence Award highlights student-athletes who maintain high academic standards while balancing the rigorous demands of competitive sports. The recognition is based on an unweighted GPA calculated from the team’s cumulative academic performance.
Superintendent Jason Mundorf praised the team’s achievement, saying, “This honor is a testament to the strong culture of athletic and academic excellence of our female-student athletes, the high expectations and accountability of Coach Danielson and his coaching staff, and the committed effort it takes to be both a great athlete and student. We applaud the exemplary work of the girls and their dedication both on and off the court!”
Other Class A Teams who accomplished this impressive GPS include Elkhorn South, Fremont, Lincoln East, Lincoln Southwest, Norfolk, North Platte, Omaha Marian, Omaha North, Omaha Westview, Papillon LaVista, and Palillion-Lavista South.
The Kearney High School community celebrates this accomplishment as a reflection of the school’s mission to foster success in academics, athletics, and beyond.
