KEARNEY — Kearney High School/Kearney Catholic High School is proud to announce that both the boys and girls swimming and diving teams have been recognized with the Nebraska Coaches Association (NCA) Currency Academic Excellence Award for the 2024-2025 winter season.

This prestigious honor is awarded to teams that have achieved a minimum unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.30 during the Fall 2024 semester or the 3rd quarter.

Sarah Coffman, Current KHS Head Swimming and Diving Coach, said, “Balancing demanding athletic schedules with academic responsibilities, these student-athletes have shown exceptional dedication and discipline in both the pool and the classroom.”

This recognition highlights the strong culture of academic and athletic excellence at Kearney High School and reflects the support of families, teachers, and coaches who help student-athletes thrive in all areas of life. The GPA’s were based off the state participants, including: Jillian Abels, Lizzie Black, Mady Buse, Kili Diestler, Lily Dietz, Reese Holscher, Alivia Parks, Ava Washington, Owen Bartee, Maxwell Haffener, Ian Hanson, Hamish McKenzie, Preston Swenson and Cooper Young.

“We talk a lot about character, commitment, and consistency—and this team truly lives that out,” said Former KHS Head Coach Jane Bartee. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see our athletes recognized not just for what they do in competition, but for how hard they work in school. They deserve this.”

Other teams awarded include: Columbus, Lincoln Southeast, Lincoln Standing Bear, Millard North, Omaha Burke, Omaha Central, Papillon-LaVista South, Omaha Marian (girls team)
