It took five sets late Friday night, but the Omaha Supernovas got back in the win column with a five set thriller against the Columbus Fury (21-15, 25-20, 26-24, 23-25, 15-9)
The win puts the Supernovas at 18-9, while Columbus drops to 8-17.
Hitting .206 in the first set, Omaha was led by six kills from Kelcie Payne. Columbus took seven of the final ten points to win the opening match. The Fury were led by Kaylee Cox, who tallied four of her 16 kills to lead Columbus.
In the second set, Reagan Cooper took over with four kills, and Toyosi Onabanjo had the final two kills to even the set. Omaha hit .333 in the set, while Morgan Lewis had her best set to lead Columbus with seven of her 15 kills, hitting .545 in the set.
Omaha rallied back from a 24-22 deficit in the third set with Lindsay Krause serving, as Omaha would take the final four points in their 26-24 win. Cooper led the Supernovas with five kills, while Phoebe Awoleye had four kills.
Despite outhitting the Fury in the fourth set .355 to .333, Columbus was in control, leading 16-11 at the midway mark and being led by Beta Dumancic with 6 kills.
While the fourth set was dominated by Columbus, Omaha led the whole time in the pivotal fifth set, leading 10-5 at the midway point and 12-7 late in the match. Columbus went .083 in the fifth set with two attack errors.
Brooke Nuneviller had 18 kills to lead the Supernovas, with Cooper adding 15 and Payne adding 13. Allison Whitten had 12 digs in the win, previously only having 7 all season long in 20 sets played. Natalia Valentin-Anderson had two service aces, while Cooper added an ace in the second set.
Omaha wraps up their home slate on Sunday with their Fan Appreciation Day when they go up against the 10-15 Vegas Thrill, who defeated San Diego in a reverse sweep tonight. First serve is set for 3PM.
