The Kearney High Bearcats saw their four-game winning streak come to an end Monday afternoon, falling to Lincoln Southwest, 14-8.

Despite the loss, the Bearcats had several bright spots at the plate. Kole Throckmorton went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk, while senior Griffin Novacek stayed hot with a 3-for-4 performance and an RBI. Gunner DeMilt also turned in a strong game, collecting multiple hits and driving in two runs.

Defensively, Kearney High committed two errors but made up for it at times with strong double play work, turning a pair of them courtesy of Jake Bosshammer and Talyn Lewis.

The Silverhawks’ offense proved too much to overcome, led by Caison Seymore, who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two doubles. Brennan Vernon added a 3-for-5 effort with two RBIs, and Luke Mitchell chipped in with two hits and two RBIs of his own.

“Lincoln Southwest played really well, they came out swinging and played really well,” said Bearcats head coach Matt Pocock. “We just couldn’t find a way to respond when we needed to.”

With the loss, the Bearcats drop to 15-9 on the season. They’ll look to regroup as they head into the final stretch of the regular season.

The Bearcats will be back in action at home Tuesday, April 29, against Bellevue East. Ethan McCormick will have the call with coverage starting at 3:15 P.M. on KGFW.
