KEARNEY — A team of four talented Kearney High School students showcased their economic expertise at the Nebraska Economics Challenge State Finals, held at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and hosted by the Nebraska Council on Economic Education.
Dax Vance, Gradyn Pearson, Kameron Ford, and Jakob Shaul earned their spot at the state competition after ranking 1st in the Western Nebraska region and 9th overall out of 155 teams participating in the Spring Nebraska Economics Challenge online qualifying round.
At the state finals, the team competed in a series of dynamic and rigorous events, including a case study and presentation, an objective knowledge test, an economics-themed escape room, and an intense quiz bowl. Their outstanding performance earned them the title of Western Regional State Runner-Up, a state trophy, medals, and a $100 cash prize for each team member.
“This group of students should be proud of their accomplishments. They worked well together in all components of the competition and proved tremendous critical thinking skills and a deep understanding of economic principles,” said Kearney High School Business Teacher Kaylei Becker, who accompanied the students. “I am extremely impressed by their hard work and achievements this year”.
