HASTINGS — Summer 2025 will see the fourth large-scale tree-trimming project for the City of Hastings in the last five years.

Hastings Utilities is committed to improving reliability and reducing the number of power outages in our electric system.

Jeff Campbell, Electric Distribution Superintendent, said some of the most common causes for power outages are trees contacting high voltage electric lines and branches tearing down customer’s service wires during storms.

Areas where the trees have been trimmed away from lines have noticeably less outages than areas that are not.
Part of the effort to reduce outages includes large scale tree-trimming projects.

The Green Tree Company from Red Oak, Iowa will be trimming a large area on the north side of Hastings. The area stretches from Marian Road to Elm Avenue, and from Seventh Street to North Shore Drive.

The Green Tree Company is projected to start tree trimming sometime in late May or early June as their schedule permits and continue through the summer. For more information call Hastings Utilities at (402) 463-1371.
