GRAND ISLAND – Hall County Commissioner has stood at the base of the Hall County Courthouse’s cupola to raise awareness for many events.
On April 30, Quandt was nearing the end of 50 hours in the cupola to observe the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War and to begin fund-raising for a Vietnam War Memorial at the Hall County Veterans Memorial Park.
Quandt said he began his stint at noon April 28.
“You don’t sleep at night,” he said. “There’s no room for a chair here.”
“I’m up here to honor the Vietnam War veterans and what they did for our country. It’s 50 years today since the Vietnam War ended.”
He noted that church bells throughout Grand Island would ring at 11 a.m. April 30.
