Suspect arrested after slapping child near Wasmer Elementary during Wednesday evening

GRAND ISLAND — A suspect was arrested after he allegedly slapped a child to the ground near Grand Island’s Wasmer Elementary  during the evening of Wednesday, April 30.

According to the Grand Island Police Department, officers responded to Wasmer Elementary around 9 p.m. and spoke with a reporting party who advised they had witnessed an older man slap a juvenile male with an open hand, causing him to fall to the ground.

Officers contacted a seven-year-old male who stated he had been slapped in the face by and older man. The child was observed to have redness and bruising on his left cheek.

Later, officers spoke with another juvenile involved in the altercation who stated that his older brother, Emilio Deleon, had slapped the victim in the head.

Deleon was arrested for committing intentional child abuse – no injury.
