GRAND ISLAND — There is still drama in the Fonner Park standings heading into the final two days of racing this weekend.

The jockey race is decided with Kevin Roman winning for the fourth straight year. Roman enters the final weekend with 58 wins while Jose Medina is second with 41.

“I’m very blessed to ride for the people I ride for and the opportunities that they give me,” Roman said. “I just take it day by day and race by race and do the best I can do.”

The trainer’s race is still up for grabs. Isai Gonzalez leads the way with 38 wins while Mark Hibdon has 36.

Gonzalez wasn’t interested in talking about winning his seventh Fonner Park trainer’s title, including what would be his fourth in a row. “No comments about that,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez didn’t win any races last Saturday, but he had a big day on Friday with four wins.

“We got some horses in the right spots,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez, who won his 600th career race earlier this meet, has 10 horses entered on Friday and 13 on Saturday.

Hibdon has six entered on Friday and eight on Saturday.

“The main thing is just to win races,” Gonzalez said.

If Gonzalez does win the title, Oregon County might make the difference. The 7-year-old Arkansas-bred gelding has won all five of his starts this year at Fonner and will get one more chance to win this weekend.

Oregon County is entered in the second race on Friday, a starter allowance for horses that have started for $2,500 in 2024 or 2025. Oregon County is an 8-5 favorite on the morning line ahead of Rosie’s Boy at 5-2 and Doge of Venice at 5-1.

Flat Out Time to run on Oaks undercard

Flat Out Time, a 3-year-old Kentucky-bred filly who won at Fonner Park, will run in the fourth race Friday at Churchill Downs before the running of the Kentucky Oaks.

Flat Out Time was trained by Annie Hines and ridden by Jose Medina in the only race of her career March 16 at Fonner. Flat Out Time pulled away to win by five lengths in the maiden special weight race.

The purse in the allowance optional $125,000 claiming race on Friday is $127,000. Flat Out Time will be ridden by Irad Ortez, Jr., and is trained by George Weaver.
