GRAND ISLAND – After more than 25 years at NTV News, veteran journalist Steve White wrote on his Facebook page May 4 that he was “stepping away” from his job.

“This decision comes with gratitude for the communities from Alda to Weissert, Bladen to Wood River that have welcomed me into your homes,” White wrote.

On May 5, radio station KRVN announced on its Facebook page that White was the station’s new Farm Director.

“For over 20 years, Steve has been a familiar face and voice across Nebraska – telling the stories of farmers, ranchers, rural communities, and ag leaders who make this state go,” the KRVN Facebook page said.

White will lead the station’s farm coverage and keep listeners up to date on markets, ag news, and “the people powering Nebraska ag.”

White wrote on the KRVN Facebook page, “KRVN is the rural voice of Nebraska for a reason. This team has a long history of serving farm and ranch families. I’m thrilled to join a station that’s part of the fabric of Nebraska, and I pledge to bring the same passion and trust we’ve worked hard to build together.”

Tim Marshall is CEO of the Nebraska Rural Radio Association. He wrote on the station’s Facebook page, “KRVN and the Rural Radio Network are the most powerful voices in agriculture, not only in Nebraska, but across the region. Adding Steve White reinforces that. He’s a trusted voice who understands rural communities, and he’ll help us continue delivering the gold standard in farm broadcasting.”

Tyler Cavalli is KRVN Operations Manager. “Steve’s background in broadcast journalism and deep understanding of rural life make him a perfect fit. Our listeners will instantly recognize and appreciate his voice.”

White was the Grand Island bureau chief. In his May 4 post, White noted that former NTV Anchor Colleen Williams dubbed him “Mr. State Fair.”

White is the latest journalist to depart from NTV. Anchor Collen Williams, morning Anchor Sara Kirkley, and Anchor Dave Griek have left the station within the last six months. Previous Anchor Seth Denney moved on to another job, and weather forecaster Kent Boughton retired.

“Grand Island is home. I’m not going anywhere. For everything, there is a season. And with this change, I carry with me the joy of serving you and the pride of our shared stories. Thank you for trusting me to tell them,” White wrote.

He is a graduate of South Dakota State University.
