KEARNEY — Kearney High School head softball coach Steve Stutzman has announced his resignation after two years of leading the Bearcat softball program. Stutzman is stepping down to accept a professional promotion as a National Sales Trainer for Abvie Pharmaceuticals.
“These past two years have been an incredibly rewarding experience,” said Stutzman. “I am truly thankful for the opportunity to be part of the Kearney High Softball Program, where we not only represented athletic excellence but also character, teamwork, and dedication.”
In his farewell message, Stutzman expressed heartfelt gratitude to KHS Athletic Director Ryan Hogue, Kearney families, and the athletes he has coached. “Working under your leadership has been a privilege, Mr. Hogue,” he said.
To the parents, Stutzman said,” Thank you for your trust, encouragement, and constant support. To the players—thank you for giving your all, day in and day out. Watching you grow as athletes and as people has been one of the most fulfilling parts of this journey. Kearney High Softball will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Athletic Director Ryan Hogue praised Stutzman’s impact and leadership: “This is a tremendous opportunity for Coach Stutzman, and there’s no way he can pass it up—for himself, but more importantly, for his entire family. We are incredibly grateful for the work he’s done with our softball program and wish him continued success in this next chapter.”
Kearney Public Schools will begin the search for a new head softball coach in the coming weeks.
