KEARNEY — The Platte River Singers and Children’s Chorale honored the groups founder, the late David Bauer, during their spring performance titled, “All in a Day,” on Sunday, May 11.
The performance took place at the Kearney High School Concert Hall on Mother’s Day.
“The Platte River Children’s Chorale and Platte River Singers have proven to be a viable, non-profit, performing choral organization for more than a decade in Kearney. The choirs were established by David and Ann Bauer with encouragement by Clayton Moyer, Brian Botsford and Angela Stelling,” according to information provided by the Platte River Singers.
“The singers pay a stipend that allows us to purchase new repertoire to challenge the singers, and hopefully repertoire that will enlighten the listeners,” according to the Platte River Singers.
The performance opened with the Children’s Chorale, under the direction of Clayton Moyer, Grace Rosenau, Emily Roemmich and Angela Wright. The arrangements they sang included “Here Comes the Sun,”; “My Lord What a Morning”; “Evening Prayer”; “Ev’ry Night When the Sun Goes In”; “Lunar Lullaby” and Oh Happy Day.
On the final number, the Children’s Chorale was joined by several alumnus singers who are now in high school choirs.
The Platte River Singers followed, with conductor Brian Botsford introducing the group and speaking about the late David Bauer.
David Bauer died at the age of 79 on Feb. 7, 2025. “David created the Platte River Singers, a Kearney area community choir, in 2013, and he served as the artistic director,” his obituary stated.
“I am sure he is somewhere out in the audience, enjoying the heck out of this concert,” Botsford said.
The Platte River Singers performed several arrangements including, “Dawn”; “Beautiful Morning”; “Will There Really Be a Morning”; “Voice on the Wind” featuring John Jacob on the hand drum; “Give Me Your Stars to Hold”; “Sure on This Shining Night” featuring Caitlyn Messbarger, soprano solo and “Yonder Come Day,” featuring Jennifer Gwasira, soprano solo.
