LINCOLN — Two fatal accidents took place in eastern Nebraska

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says one person was killed in a two vehicle crash in the norther part of the county early Tuesday morning. Investigators say LSO deputies and Raymond Volunteer Fire and Rescue were called to Highway 79 north of West Bluff Road just after 2:40 a.m.

LSO says a Ford sedan traveling southbound crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a semi truck. The driver of the sedan died at the scene. The name of the victim hasn’t been released pending notification of family.

The driver of the semi was not hurt and investigators are trying to determine why the car crossed the centerline.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says one person died following a head-on crash near 162nd and ‘O’ Street around 12:30 p.m. “It was learned a Ford Focus was traveling eastbound and collided with a white SUV that was traveling westbound,” says LSO Chief Deputy Ben Houchin.

The Ford Focus ended up on the westbound shoulder and the SUV went into a ditch on the north side of ‘O’ Street. Houchin says the driver of the Ford Focus was taken to a Lincoln hospital in extremely critical condition. He has since died of his injuries.

The driver of the SUV was able to walk away from the crash. Houchin says both men were wearing seatbelts and no alcohol is suspected. ‘O’ Street between 148th and 162nd was closed for a couple of hours during the investigation, but has since reopened.
