GRAND ISLAND — A Grand Island man has been charged after he was accused of stealing over $30,000 while he was an employee of Walmart.

Ivan Maceo Alvarez, 61, has been charged with theft by unlawful taking – more than $5,000.

Alvarez’s bail was set at 10 percent of $30,000. He is scheduled to appear in Hall County Court for a preliminary hearing on June 16.

According to an affidavit submitted in court, a Grand Island Police Department investigator spoke with a Walmart loss prevention representative about cash that had been taken from the location on N. Diers between March 11 and April 25.

Alvarez is alleged to have been seen on camera at least seven times taking cash from a self-checkout. The total amount taken was $30,821.

Alvarez was reported to have worked at the store since September of 2023.

GIPD officers made contact with Alvarez and he was booked into the Hall County Department of Corrections.
