NEBRASKA BASEBALL RALLIES FOR BIGGEST COMEBACK SINCE 2010 IN SERIES OPENING WIN:

Nebraska mounted its largest comeback since 2010 to pick up an 11-9 win at Purdue on Thursday night at Alexander Field in West Lafayette, Ind.

The Huskers trailed 8-0 after three innings, making it the Big Red’s largest come-from-behind win since rallying from a 10-run deficit against North Dakota on March 30, 2010.

Nebraska (27-26, 14-14 Big Ten) scored 11 runs on 14 hits and an error, while Purdue (30-22, 10-18 Big Ten) totaled nine runs, 11 hits and two errors.

Combined with other results around the conference on Thursday, Nebraska was able to clinch its spot in next week’s Big Ten Tournament in Omaha.

Nebraska and Purdue are scheduled to continue the series today at Alexander Field. First pitch between the Big Red and Boilermakers is set for 3 p.m. CT on B1G+.

PGA HAS STRONG FIELD AND BIG SURPRISE: JHONATTAN VEGAS LEADS AT 64 AS STARS FAIL TO SHINE:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Jhonattan Vegas played the best golf hardly anyone saw Thursday in the PGA Championship.

Brilliant sunshine after three days of rain brought out a full house of spectators expecting a great show. They just didn’t get it from who they came to see — Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele — and most of them were long gone when Vegas worked his magic in the late afternoon.

Two good par saves. Two short birdies. Another par save. And then three birdies at the end for a 7-under 64, giving the 40-year-old Venezuela his best score in 45 rounds at the majors and a two-shot lead on an opening day of surprises.

“Incredible,” Vegas said when asked to summarize his round. “Any chance you get to shoot 64 at a major championship is always great.”

Equally incredible is that for the first time in at least 30 years, none of the top 10 players in the world ranking could be found in the top 10 of the leaderboard after 18 holes at a major.

FORMER QB RODGERS SIGNING DECISION IMPACTED NFL SCHEDULE:

(AP) – Pittsburgh Steelers executives aren’t the only ones eagerly awaiting a decision from Aaron Rodgers on whether he plans to play football this season. The NFL schedule makers also were following the Rodgers saga very closely.

Rodgers has had talks about signing with Pittsburgh but hasn’t made a final decision if he wants to play in 2025, leaving the Steelers with Mason Rudolph and rookie Will Howard currently at the top of the depth chart.

The league still gave the Steelers four prime-time games and one standalone international game in Ireland in Week 4 in the schedule released Wednesday, banking that the team’s strong following and history of success under coach Mike Tomlin will make them an attractive team for networks no matter what Rodgers decides.

“We tried to play it down the middle,” NFL scheduling executive Mike North said Thursday. “We don’t know anything more than than anybody else. The schedule was built for Coach Tomlin and for the Steelers. If Aaron decides to play, it probably just makes many, if not all, the Steelers games a little more interesting.”

CURRENT SUNS EMPLOYEE SUES TEAM ALLEGING DISCRIMINATION, HARASSMENT AND RETALIATION:

PHOENIX (AP) — A current employee for the Phoenix Suns has sued the team, alleging discrimination, harassment based on race and unlawful retaliation.

The suit was filed by lawyers representing Gene Traylor in U.S. District Court in Arizona on Tuesday, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press.

Traylor was hired by the Suns in January 2023 as the director of safety, security and risk management. He alleges that a security presentation he gave to management that year led to retaliation by members of the organization, and that he was eventually demoted.

ESPN first reported that the lawsuit had been filed. The Suns confirmed that Traylor still works for the team.

Traylor’s suit also says that the Suns failed multiple arena security tests. It alleges that the Phoenix Police Department’s Homeland Defense Bureau conducted tests in 2023 and 2024 and plainclothes officers were able to smuggle weapons into the arena.
