BROKEN BOW — A High Wind Warning has been issued for parts of north central Nebraska through the evening of Riday, May 16.
According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, the warning has been issued from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Counties under the warning include Custer, Greeley, Howard, Merrick, Hance, Sherman, Valley and Polk.
Northwest winds are expected to blow from 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. The strongest wind gusts are expected to be near or north of Highway 92. The Tri-Cities area is expected to see gusts peak around 45 mph.
Severe winds could cause damage to trees and power lines and travel will be hazardous especially in high profile vehicles.
Looking ahead, parts of central and south-central Nebraska are under a Slight Risk, a two out of five, for severe weather on Sunday, May 18. Coverage and location of storm development remains uncertain but there is some risk across the entire area.
