GRAND ISLAND — A suspect was arrested in Grand Island for their fourth driving under the influence count and also found in possession of cocaine. A passenger in the vehicle attempted to flee the scene.
According to the Grand Island Police Department, officers made contact with Roberto Moreno during a traffic stop in a parking lot off Locust St. after he was observed to make an improper turn.
Officers noted an open alcohol beverage in the center console and that Moreno had blood shot watery eyes, slurred speech and the odor of alcohol emanating from his person, according to the GIPD.
A records check of Moreno showed that he was driving while revoked and had three prior DUI convictions within the past 15 years. Per the GIPD, Moreno would show signs of impairment during a field sobriety test and provide a failing preliminary blood test sample.
Upon searching, officers found a one-dollar bill in Moreno’s wallet that contained a white powdery substance which was later tested positive for cocaine.
During the traffic stop, the passenger Alonso Copas fled on foot after he was instructed by officers not to leave.
Moreno would be arrested for driving while revoked from DUI, driving under the influence – fourth offense, possession of a controlled substance – cocaine, improper turn and open container.
Copas was cited for obstructing government operations.
