BAHL NAMED TOP 3 FINALIST FOR NATIONAL AWARD:
Nebraska softball pitcher and utility player Jordyn Bahl was named a Top 3 finalist for the USA Softball/ESPN Collegiate Player of the Year, the organization announced on Monday. Bahl is the first Husker to be a top-3 finalist for the award, and she is a top-3 finalist for the first time after being a three-time top-10 finalist.
The Papillion native continues to rack up the accolades, as she was named both the Big Ten Player of the Year and the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year. She was the first player in the conference’s history to earn both of those awards in the same season. She also was a member of the All-Big Ten first team. Bahl has also been a two-time national player of the week this spring, and she has won six Big Ten weekly awards, including five pitcher-of-the-week honors and one player-of-the-week award.
The other two finalists are Arkansas’ Bri Ellis and Texas Tech’s NiJaree Canady, the reigning Collegiate Player of the Year.
The winner will be announced on Tuesday, May 27 at the athlete’s banquet prior to the Women’s College World Series.
BEASON, MARTIN, SIS NAMED TO US U23 NATIONAL TRAINING TEAM:
Former Nebraska volleyball All-American Merritt Beason and Creighton’s Ava Martin and Norah Sis have been selected to train with the USA Volleyball Women’s U23 National Team for the NORCECA U23 Pan American Cup, set for July 25-Aug. 2 in Leon, Mexico.
The trio will be part of 18 athletes taking part in a training block at the National Team Training Center in Anaheim, Calif., from July 18-25. From that pool, 12 athletes will be chosen to represent the United States in Mexico.

Last summer Martin was one of 19 women’s collegiate athletes to be selected for the 2024 Women’s Collegiate National Team, which trained in Anaheim, Calif., alongside the U.S. Olympic Women’s Volleyball Team. EAGLES SIGN SIRIANNI TO EXTENSION:
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Nick Sirianni already won a Super Bowl this year. The Philadelphia Eagles rewarded Sirianni on Monday with a multi-year contract extension to pair with that championship ring.
Sirianni has navigated the Eagles through some personal slings — everything from his supposed frosty relationship with quarterback Jalen Hurts to his dubious sideline interactions with fans — to lead the franchise to four playoff appearances in four seasons and two trips to the Super Bowl. Sirianni led the Eagles to the title in this past season’s Super Bowl when they routed the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in New Orleans.
Terms of the contract announced Monday were not revealed. Sirianni had one year left on his existing five-year contract he signed when he was hired ahead of the 2021 season.
Sirianni is 48-20 in the regular season with the Eagles. He also led the Eagles to the Super Bowl in the 2022 season where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.
