The Kearney High boys track team won their second straight track title Thursday night at Burke Stadium in Omaha.
The Bearcats defeated Fremont 75-66 to win the title over the Tigers, who scored 50 of their points in the long distance races. Lincoln Southeast and Lincoln North Star tied for third with 58 points. Click/Tap here for full results.
Kearney was able to counterbalance that long distance threat with the speed of Zaire LaGrone-Miller. LaGrone-Miller won both the 100M (10.51) and 200M (21.50), and was part of the 4x400M Relay team that took 5th (3:21.41). The speed also rolled through with a second place finish in the 4x100M relay (42.71).
The Bearcats also added a pair of second place finishes from Taj Wilson in the Triple Jump (47-08.25) and Zach Wulf in the Discus (169-04)
Luke Brachle added 12 points to the team title. The senior, comitted to UNK, took third in the 110M Hurdles (14.33) and third in the High Jump (6-04.00).
The Kearney High girls had a state champion in Alexa Jacobsen’s shot put throw of 42-00.50, and four runner-up finishes with Greeley Cargill in the Discus (131-09); Kyah Hazard in the Pole Vault (11-06.00) and Abigail Burger in the distance races (5:04.91 in the 1600, 10:39.75 in the 3200). Kearney and Papio South battled throughout the entire meet for first place, with the Titans overtaking Kearney in the 200m, and keeping their lead after Kearney was unable to seperate from the Titans in the 4×400 (Kearney 3rd, Papio South 4th).
Central City took third in the Class B Boys race, tied with Skutt Catholic, thanks to Wyatt Dent helping score 28 points. Dent won the Class C Boys 100M (10.61) and ran the anchor leg in the winning 4x100M relay team (42.28). Dent also took runner-up to Adams Central’s Jonathon Reiners in the Long Jump, and teammate Truman Ryan was runner-up in the triple jump.
