LEXINGTON — During the morning hours of Friday, May 16, 2025, deputies of the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Blue Heron Campground located at 1102 South Lake Avenue in Gothenburg after receiving a report of a male subject attempting to forcibly enter a female subject’s camper.
Responding deputies and officers from the Gothenburg Police Department conducted an investigation, where contact was made with a male suspect in his camper, identified as 55-year-old Lane B. Dishman of Elwood.
During this contact, Mr. Dishman struck a Gothenburg Police Department Officer in the head, requiring medical intervention to the officer. While law enforcement officers were attempting to take Mr. Dishman into custody. he engaged in a struggle with law enforcement which required a taser deployment.
Following the deployment of the taser, he was taken into custody on the suspected charges of Second Degree Assault on a Peace Officer, Obstructing a Peace Officer, Resisting Arrest, Attempted Burglary, and Disturbing the Peace. Dawson County Deputies transported Mr. Dishman to the Dawson County Jail in Lexington, Nebraska without further incident.
During the morning hours of Saturday, May 17, 2025, Dawson County Corrections staff detected labored breathing from Mr. Dishman and contacted an ambulance where he was transported to the Lexington Regional Health Center.
Mr. Dishman was ultimately transported to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha where he was pronounced dead during the morning hours of Thursday, May 22, 2025.
The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office has requested assistance from South Central Area Law Enforcement Services (SCALES) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Dishman. The Dawson County Attorney’s Office has ordered an autopsy, and the investigation remains ongoing at this time.
The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Gothenburg Police Department, the Dawson County Attorney’s Office, and South Central Area Law Enforcement Services.
