30th Ave. Overpass in Kearney, (Brian Neben, Central Nebraska Today)

KEARNEY — The City of Kearney Public Works Department, in coordination with KEA Constructors, LLC, announces that Phase 2 of the 30th Avenue Overpass Rehabilitation Project will begin on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

This phase will focus on the reconstruction of the approach slab and the expansion joint of the existing west two driving lanes at both ends of the structure. During this time, the overpass will be completely closed to northbound traffic. Northbound motorists are advised to use alternate routes. One lane will remain open for southbound traffic only.

Phase 2 is anticipated to last approximately 12 to 14 weeks, with the goal of completing this portion before the start of the school year in the fall. The overall rehabilitation project will continue throughout the 2025 construction season.

The pedestrian sidewalk on the overpass, as well as the hike-bike trail at ground level near the northeast corner of the structure by North Railroad Street, will remain closed for the duration of the project. Pedestrians and cyclists should plan to use alternative routes, such as the trail and railroad underpass along the tailrace canal.

Motorists are urged to stay alert, exercise caution, and be mindful of construction workers and equipment in the area.
