GRAND ISLAND — The 10/11 “Show You Care” Can Care-A-Van is rolling into Grand Island on Wednesday, June 11, as part of its 38th annual Nebraska food drive.

This year’s event continues its mission of helping local families and individuals experiencing food insecurity by collecting donations for local food pantries. In Grand Island, the benefitting pantries include Blessed Sacrament, Hope Harbor, St. Mary’s, and the Salvation Army.

Community members are encouraged to stop by either Super Saver location, 1602 W 2nd Street or 710 State Street, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to donate canned and shelf-stable items such as:

  • Canned meat, vegetables, fruits, and soups
  • Pasta and pasta sauce
  • Applesauce
  • Crackers and cereal
  • Rice and beans
  • Mac and cheese
  • Meal kits (Hamburger Helper type)
  • Other non-perishable goods

“Participating in the Can Care-a-Van aligns perfectly with Liberty First Credit Union’s philosophy of ‘People Helping People.’ As a financial institution rooted in community values, we believe true success is measured by the impact we make together,” said Angie Schreiner, senior vice president of marketing at Liberty First Credit Union. “Supporting the Food Bank through this initiative is one way we put our philosophy into action—helping ensure that no neighbor goes without and that we all move forward, together.”

Anderson Auto Group is also partnering with 10/11. “We are proud to partner with 10/11’s Can Care-a-Van to benefit the local Food Bank,” said Mike Anderson, president and CEO at Anderson Auto Group. “We have been a proud supporter of the food bank for years and the current need is unprecedented. Our store is excited to be a drop-off location, and we look forward to making a difference in our community.”

“OneHealth Nebraska is honored to partner with 10/11’s Can Care-a-Van to support the local Food Bank in fighting hunger in our community,” said Steve Kros, CEO of OneHealth Nebraska. “As a physician-led organization, we understand that good health begins with access to healthy food. We are proud to be part of an effort that helps ensure everyone in the community has the food they need to live healthy lives.”

Can Care-a-Van has been traveling across Nebraska since 1988, collecting millions of pounds of food thanks to community generosity and local partnerships. Grand Island’s participation helps ensure pantry shelves are stocked well beyond the summer months.
