KEARNEY — The Kearney Public Schools 8th Grade Band, comprised of students from both Horizon and Sunrise Middle Schools, has received the prestigious honor of performing at the 2025 National Veterans Salute in Washington, D.C.
This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will take place on Veterans Day, November 11, 2025, with performances beginning at the Lincoln Memorial and proceeding to the World War II Memorial.
The ceremony begins with a solemn musical tribute at the Lincoln Memorial, nestled between the Korean War and Vietnam War Memorials. The ensemble will then join a formal processional to the WWII Memorial, honoring all who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. This national event is a deeply meaningful recognition of sacrifice, patriotism, and the enduring spirit of American service.
“This is more than just a performance—it’s an opportunity for our students to be part of a powerful national tribute,” said Jason Mundorf, Superintendent of Kearney Public Schools. “We are incredibly proud of their talent and the hard work of our music educators.”
Band programs selected for this ceremony are personally recommended and chosen from a national database of exceptional directors and schools. The selection reflects the dedication, excellence, and growing reputation of Kearney’s middle school music programs.
“This honor is one of the highest a middle school band can receive,” said Stacy Bean, Horizon Middle School Band Director. “Our students have poured their hearts into their music, and now they get to use that talent to honor our veterans on a national stage. It’s truly humbling and incredibly exciting.”
To make this journey possible, we are calling on our community for support. Travel, lodging, and performance costs present a significant financial need, and donations or sponsorships will help ensure that every selected student can participate in this unforgettable experience.
