Kearney Area Community Foundation, (Brian Neben, Central Nebraska Today)

KEARNEY — The Kearney Area Community Foundation recently awarded a total of $76,000 in Arthur Klinkacek Community Enrichment Fund grants to 10 local nonprofits.

• $10,000 was awarded to Buffalo County Community Partners to assist local childcare providers at risk of closing.
• $5,000 was awarded to Crossroads Mission Avenue to help replace HVAC units in the Kearney facility.
• $10,000 was awarded to Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department to upgrade their floor.
• $10,000 was awarded to Kearney Area Children’s Museum to renovate the museum’s entryway.
• $5,000 was awarded to Lutheran Family Services to send a law enforcement officer and co-responder to the Crisis Intervention Team International Conference training.
• $8,500 was awarded to SAFE Center to help implement GreenDot, a bystander intervention strategy that equips people with skills to stay safe in potential violent situations.
• $15,000 was awarded to Shelton Community Pool Project to update the community pool facility.
• $5,000 was awarded to United Way of the Kearney Area to establish a Circles USA chapter, offering educational opportunities to those who live below the poverty line.
• $2,500 was awarded to the University of Kearney (UNK) One-Handed Woodwinds Program to modify a saxophone into an adaptive musical instrument to increase access in our community.
• $5,000 was awarded to Zion Lutheran School to replace their outdoor playing field with an artificial turf, which also serves neighborhood children.

The Arthur Klinkacek Community Enrichment Fund was started after Arthur E. Klinkacek left a gift of more than $2 million to the Kearney Area Community Foundation from his estate to help communities and youth in the Kearney area for years to come.

The Arthur Klinkacek Community Enrichment Fund typically grants funds to projects or programs in the Kearney area and surrounding communities. Grants are made to nonprofit, federally tax-exempt 501(c)(3) qualified organizations, or organizations delivering a project or program which have a fiscal relationship with a qualified charity.
