KEARNEY — A bid was selected for the east parking lot project near the Buffalo County courthouse during the commissioners meeting on Tuesday, June 10.
The new east parking lot will be located in the vacant lot just to the east of the courthouse, south of Turner Body Shop and Towing, north of 15th St. and along Central Ave, according to Steve Gaasch, Facilities Director for the county.
The parking lot will feature 56 parking spaces and two to three handicap spots. The goal of the project is to help alleviate the parking situation around the courthouse and ease the parking along Central Ave. in the area.
There were eight bids submitted for the project, with the low bid being submitted by B&S Concrete of Kearney at the amount of $212,950.00. The commissioners voted to accept the bid.
Gaasch said that B&S will be able to start on the project within weeks and the work must be completed by Oct. 1, 2025, he noted the project should be finished well before the deadline.
There was another bid opening for the 321 Building canopy addition project.
There were two bids submitted with Duncan Theis Construction having the low bid of $148,800, which was approved by the commissioners.
During the meeting the commissioners also received an update from the District 9 probation office in Kearney from Shane Vance, Reporting Center Coordinator.
Vance said the probation office has been at their current location for nearly two years and they are making good use of the location. He noted they have 87 staff members and their eight supervision coordinators work with around 300 clients each.
Vance said the building is open five days a week and they offer 21 types of different classes.
Some of the classes include group sessions, officer facilitated groups, support groups and civilian led groups.
He also noted that they are open during the early morning and later afternoon hours to accommodate drug testing for individuals who need to be at work at certain times.
