KEARNEY — Roger Jasnoch, the outgoing executive director of the Kearney Visitors Bureau, was recognized for his years of service during the Buffalo County commissioners meeting on Tuesday, June 10.

Jasnoch has served in his position for nearly 40 years and has had an large impact on the tourism industry in Kearney and the state of Nebraska.

A resolution was read by Commissioner Tim Higgins during the meeting honor Jasnoch and read in part, “Jasnoch has served the community with distinction for nearly four decades, providing dedicated leadership and helping to strengthen local and regional efforts in the tourism and hospitality sector.”

“(Jasnoch) has played a key role in supporting numerous community initiatives, events, and projects that have contributed to the growth and vibrancy of the area. He has been a leader in the hospitality industry by perpetuating the community culture of partnerships with the county, city and private businesses.”

“We do hereby recognize and commend Jasnoch for his outstanding service and contribution to the community. We would also like to thank Jasnoch for making Buffalo County and the City of Kearney the conference, meeting and tourist destination it is today,” the resolution concluded.

“A visionary leader, Roger’s legacy includes the inception of community projects such as the Kearney Area Community Foundation, The Archway, Viaero Center, and the American Automobile Experience, collaborating with other entities to make these projects a reality. Roger has also helped Kearney secure many state and regional events including being instrumental in bringing the Nebraska Senior Games to Kearney in 1989, which remain here to this day,” a press release stated.

“Roger received the Nebraska Tourism Commission’s Henry Fonda Award, the state’s highest tourism honor which celebrates outstanding leadership, vision, and dedication to the industry. Most recently, he played a pivotal role in the development of the new, state-of-the-art Kearney Welcome Center,” per the release.

The Chairman of the Kearney Visitors Bureau Board of Directors, Paul Younes, says “Roger’s impact on the Kearney area will be felt for generations, and we wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement”.
