WOOD RIVER — The man who was struck and killed by a train in Wood River during the evening of June 8, 2025, has been identified.
According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, the individual was identified as Jason Palka, 44, of Manteno, Ill.
The cause of death appears to have been self-inflicted.
Hall County Sheriff’s deputies responded at 10:11 a.m. to the area of 9th St. and Railroad St. for the report of a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a train.
Palka’s abandoned vehicle was located nearby.
