ELM CREEK — Traffic on Interstate 80 was brought to a standstill near Elm Creek due to a multi-vehicle accident that took place during the late morning hours of Thursday, June 19.

Just before 11 a.m., Elm Creek Fire and Rescue was dispatched to mile marker 256 on I-80, just west of Elm Creek, due to the report of a multi-vehicle accident.

This area of I-80 is currently in a head-to-head traffic configuration in the westbound lane due to ongoing construction of the eastbound lane.

The Nebraska State Patrol stated that troopers, deputies and rescue personnel were on scene of a serious crash near Elm Creek. I-80 traffic was being diverted, the westbound lane will exit at Kearney and the eastbound lane will exit at Lexington.

Photos from the scene show two vehicles with heavy front end damage and a Fed-Ex semi-tralier at rest on the shoulder.

This is a developing situation, check back for updates when they are made available.
