ELM CREEK — A California man was killed as the result of a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 80 near Elm Creek during the late morning hours of Thursday, June 19.
“At approximately 10:55 a.m., rescue crews were called to a crash involving multiple vehicles on I-80 near Elm Creek at mile marker 256. This area is a construction zone with one lane of traffic in each direction,” per the Nebraska State Patrol.
“Preliminary investigation shows that a westbound pickup was towing an SUV and lost control. The pickup crossed the center line and struck an eastbound semi. The collision caused the pickup and SUV to separate and the towed SUV struck another SUV,” per NSP.
“The driver of the pickup, a man from California, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the SUV was flown by Apollo MedFlight to Good Samaritan Hospital,” per NSP.
“The passengers of the Durango were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital by ambulance. The semi driver was not injured. The response involved NSP, Buffalo County, Dawson County, NDOT, and multiple local EMS and fire crews,” the NSP stated.
The crash remains under investigation. I-80 was closed for approximately 4.5 hours.
