Hastings Police Department, (Brian Neben, Central Nebraska Today)
HASTINGS — Nebraska has more than 1.4 million licensed drivers and 2.5 million registered vehicles.
Traffic crashes are a daily occurrence that result in nearly 18,000 injured persons annually. In 2020, there were a total of 29,418 reported motor vehicle crashes which killed 233 people and injured another 14,100. In 2022, there were 244 fatalities resulting from motor vehicle crashes and 227 fatalities in 2023. Numerous Law Enforcement initiatives, enforcements, and grants have been utilized to help reduce theses numbers, both in Nebraska and across the Nation.
In an ongoing effort to provide the citizens of Hastings safe streets, the Police Department recently applied for and was awarded a grant through the Nebraska Department of Transportation to help reduce fatal and serious injury speed related crashes.
The “Speeding Prevention Enforcement” grant will allow HPD Officers to work overtime hours conducting additional traffic enforcement throughout all areas of Hastings, with a particular focus on locations where speeding and injury crashes are more likely to occur. This enforcement will occur from July 14 – 31, 2025.
Thank you to the Nebraska Department of Transportation for this opportunity
