KEARNEY — Application for the 2025-26 Buffalo County Youth Advisory Board (YAB) is open for applications.
Youth who live in Buffalo County and attend middle or high school are encouraged to apply. YAB is looking for youth interested in working together to make a difference in their communities and learn skills to create change. Priority will be given to youth in Shelton, Elm Creek, Pleasanton, and Gibbon due to limited representation in these rural communities, however, all youth in the county are encouraged to apply.
Apply at Https://www.bcchp.org/yab/
Interested youth are encouraged to join the Buffalo County Youth Advisory Board, staff and adult volunteers of Buffalo County Community Partners on Wednesday, July 23 at 1:00 – 2:30 pm at Yanney Park’s Yanney Pavillion. Youth will work alongside YAB members and adults to clean artwork, benches and support signage in the community garden.
“Encouraging civic engagement and collaboration is the foundation of skill development for youth who want to serve and improve their community. This will be a fun way for high school students to connect with change-makers from across the county and give back to our community.” Stated youth program coordinator, Ellery Butterfield with Buffalo County Community Partners, the host of YAB.
Root beer floats will be served by adult volunteers.
The purpose of YAB is to connect youth across the county, provide youth with a platform to share their voice, provide a safe place within the community where youth build a sense of belonging, and an opportunity to share resources, data, and trends with their peers and other adults.
“I am involved in many extracurricular activities such as speech, one act, FBLA, track, etc.; however, YAB has made one of the biggest positive impacts on me,” shared Ravenna youth Abby Lewandowski. YAB meets the third Sunday in the afternoon. YAB encourages youth to talk with their guardians or parents to ensure youth are available at least 4-5hrs per month to work on local youth issues.
