EDISON — Weather permitting, a cold milling and chip sealing project will begin Aug. 18 on U.S. Highway 136 (US-136), according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

Cold milling is a process of removing deteriorated asphalt in preparation of placing a chip seal to improve the roadway surface and drivability. Chip seal is an application of an asphalt binder to a roadway surface followed by an aggregate.

State maintenance forces will be performing a cold milling and chip seal from reference post 1.0 to reference post 9.5, from Edison to Oxford. The work is anticipated to take 15 days. Traffic will be maintained with a pilot car and flaggers.

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and put phones down.
