GRAND ISLAND – A date that Central Nebraskans have been waiting to hear for a long time has been announced: Target in Grand Island is opening Sunday, Oct. 12.

A large red circular banner with the words “Opens October 12” is posted on the south side of the store, near its entrance.

A concrete parking lot is south of the store and was filled with cars Aug. 28.

The Target store spans the south side of the area that used to be the Conestoga Mall.

“We’re excited to bring an easy, affordable and convenient shopping experience to new guests in the Grand Island community with this new Target store, said Loni Monroe of Enterprise Communications, a spokesperson for Target. “The store will be approximately 148,200 square feet. As we get closer to opening the store, we’ll have more specific details to share – including how the shopping experience will be tailored to serve local guests and the grand opening date.”
