HASTINGS — A Freeze Watch has been issued for parts of south-central Nebraska due to expected temperatures during the morning of Thursday, Oct. 30.
According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, sub-freezing temperatures into the mid-20s to around 30 degrees for the late evening of Wednesday, Oct. 29 and morning of Thursday, Oct. 30.
A low level ridge of high pressure will move in tonight and allow for winds to decrease. The lighter winds combined with the dry air and mostly clear skies will lend to a widespread and significant freeze for much of the area.
The NWS Hastings noted that a hard freeze is considered the end of the growing season. Having issued the Freeze Watch for Thursday morning, it will be the last frost or freeze headline for the season.
“Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing such as hoses and sprinklers,” per NWS Hastings, “To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly.”
“Relatively pleasant late fall conditions will prevail Thursday afternoon through Friday with temperatures in the 50s amidst seasonably light winds and decent sunshine,” per NWS Hastings.
