City of Gibbon, (Brian Neben, Central Nebraska Today)
GIBBON — Our community just landed nearly half a million dollars to keep Gibbon growing, thriving, and moving forward.
The Nebraska Department of Economic Development has officially awarded Gibbon $488,000 through the CDBG Program — and this funding is going to have a major impact.
What This Means for Gibbon: $435,000 for downtown revitalization. We’re investing directly into the heart of our community by:
- Upgrading storefronts and façades
- Updating sidewalks and improving ADA accessibility
- Tackling street improvements that make downtown safer, cleaner, and more attractive
- Boosting local businesses and bringing more life to Main Street
This is the kind of project that makes people say, “Something is happening in Gibbon.”
$53,000 for a brand new comprehensive plan. This is Gibbon’s roadmap for the future. We’re talking:
- Housing
- Growth
- Land use
- Parks
- Infrastructure
- Long-term vision
This plan will guide the next 10–20 years and ensure we’re building the community our kids and grandkids will be proud of. A huge thank you to the partners who helped make this happen:
SCEDD – South Central Economic Development District: Our regional economic development team that rolled up their sleeves, helped develop the application, and supported Gibbon every step of the way. They are an incredible partner for rural communities.
Olsson: Providing engineering, planning, and technical expertise that helped us shape a winning project AND prepare for long-term planning.
Mayor Leon Stall & the Gibbon City Council: For believing in the vision, pushing these efforts forward, and staying committed to investing in Gibbon’s future. Gibbon is on the move.
This funding is proof that when our community works together — good things happen.
