HASTINGS — The Game’s Afoot! Hasting’s Community Theatre is proud to announce the follow up to the gigantic success of Annie with their second show of their 66th season, which will see them bring the mystery and mayhem of Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery, written by one of America’s most popular playwrights, Ken Ludwig (Lend Me A Tenor, Moon Over Buffalo, Leading Ladies, Murder on the Orient Express).
This fast-paced, hilarious take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Hound of the Baskervilles is sure to bring laughter and thrills to HCT!
In this madcap comedy, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson race to solve the case of the Baskerville family curse before the next heir meets a mysterious and terrifying fate. But here’s the twist: seven actors portray more than forty characters, transforming with lightning speed from villain to victim, from London street urchin to Devonshire aristocrat — all while keeping the laughs (and suspense) coming.
Audiences can expect a whirlwind of accents, quick costume changes, and a generous dose of physical comedy as Baskerville showcases the talents of Jesse Nielsen as Sherlock Holmes, the world’s most famous detective, alongside David Udlock as Dr. John Watson, Holmes’s steadfast companion.
They are joined by Turner Griffin, making his HCT debut as Sir Henry Baskerville, the newly arrived heir to the Baskerville fortune and estate, and Ty Havranek as Dr. Mortimer — a family friend who brings the mysterious case to Holmes’s attention. Rounding out the cast are Adam Vander Veer, Cristi EagleFeather, and Chandra White, who together portray more than thirty characters, including such memorable figures as Inspector Lestrade, Mrs. Hudson, several Baker Street Irregulars, and the enigmatic Stapletons.
Directed by Dustin Velasquez and assistant directed by Sara Shirley, this production of Baskerville is a bold and visually stunning reimagining of Ken Ludwig’s comedic mystery. Velasquez and Shirley transform the stage into a living, breathing extension of the story — a multi-layered world that conceals as much as it reveals.
Every element, from light and sound to movement and illusion, is designed to pull audiences deeper into the mystery. Using every tool the theatre has to offer, the creative team has crafted a production that feels both cinematic and wildly theatrical. What unfolds is a breathtaking display of visuals, inventive physical comedy, and a level of technical spectacle that has become a hallmark of the HCT stage. It’s a Holmes adventure unlike any other — thrilling, funny, and utterly unforgettable.
