HASTINGS — For the 2025 winner of the Hastings Parks and Recreation Department’s Holiday Lights Contest, the effort was a family activity.

Travis McCall received the most votes among competitors in this year’s Holiday Lights Contest. He worked with his sons: Jase, 13; and Ryker, 8; on a display for his house at 2212 Indian Acres Drive.

“It’s a good, fun time with the boys,” McCall said. “They love it. I love it. I appreciate all the votes and am overwhelmed with all the joy.”

McCall was accompanied by his sons Monday afternoon, Dec. 22, when Recreation Coordinator Seth Webster presented them with a trophy created by parks crews.

Voting took place Dec. 12-21 on the Hastings Parks and Recreation Department’s Facebook page. Voting was based on likes, comments and shares on videos of each of the participating houses.

In addition to McCall’s house at 2212 Indian Acres Drive, other homes in the contest this year included 1202 Nalan Drive, 1501 N. Highland Road, 813 Maplewood Ave., 610 S. Sewell Ave., 420 S. Garfield Ave., 306 W. D St. and 102 W. H St., 601 N. Bellevue Ave., 422 E. Seventh St., and 109 Pacific St.

A map showing the location of each of the participating houses is available on the Parks and Recreation Department Facebook page.

Features on McCall’s house include red, white and green lights lining the house and driveway; lighted red stockings hanging from the brick exterior on the southwest part of the house; red, green and white lights spelling out “Ho, Ho, Ho” on the roof; flashing lights wrapping a tree in the yard, strings of lights and a star on the west side of the house resembling a Christmas tree. Christmas-themed Banners cover the inside of the windows as well as the garage doors.

McCall’s house is very visible from nearby 12th Street.
