LEXINGTON — To help the needs of Lexington residents impacted by the Tyson closure, Crossroads Mission Avenue is opening a food pantry at their Mission Avenue Thrift Store in the community.
Crossroads Executive Director, Daniel Buller, said that Crossroads is once again partnering with Food Bank for the Heartland to open a food pantry at their thrift store, 114 W 5th Street, on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
Buller said that shelf stable foods will be available upon request at the counter in the thrift store. Those seeking to utilize the food pantry will have to fill out some brief paperwork and will receive their allotment of food.
The regular monthly food distribution in Lexington, sponsored by Crossroads and FBFH, took place on Jan. 8, at the Dawson County Fairgrounds, where food boxes will be provided to residents as they drive through the distribution route.
This food distribution will continue at the fairgrounds, with the food pantry at the thrift store helping to fill the gaps in access times, Buller said.
Residents can donate to the food pantry with shelf stable goods, or donate their time at the thrift store. Buller said they seek to engage the communities they serve in through their Christian ministry.
