NEBRASKA — Following the resignations of LD 41 State Senator Dan McKeon and District 4 Regent Elizabeth O’Connor, voters in the respective districts will elect a candidate to fill the offices on both their primary and general election ballots in 2026.
Governor Pillen’s appointee to the LD 41 seat, Senator Fred Meyer, will serve until January 5, 2027. The Governor’s appointee to the Board of Regents will serve until January 7, 2027 (unless either runs and is elected in November). Elected candidates will take office to finish out the remainder of each term.
The current term for Legislative District 41 runs through January 2, 2029. The current term for the University of Nebraska Board of
Regents District 4 runs through January 9, 2031.
Candidates who are interested in running for these offices will be subject to the same primary candidate filing deadlines as other races, February 17 for incumbent candidates and March 2 for non-incumbents.
Candidate filing forms can be found on the Secretary of State’s website along with other candidate filing resources. A full list of state and federal level offices that will be nominated in the 2026 primary election is also available.
