HASTINGS — Central Nebraska will see temperatures above normal by mid-week, followed by the return of Arctic air next weekend with a chance for light snow.
According to the National Weather Service – Hasting, a warm front is set to lift into the area on Tuesday as southerly flow strengthens over the regions.
Highs will range from the 30s across the most northern parts of their forecast area to the low 50s near the state line. As a result, near critical fire weather conditions are possible west of Highway 183 on Tuesday due to the combination of low relative humidity and winds gusting around 20-25 mph.
NWS Hastings notes this looks like a relatively narrow window for fire weather concerns but will continue to monitor the situation.
Above normal temperatures will last through Wednesday and Thursday, with highs in the 40s and the 50s.
The next shot of frigid air arrived Thursday night into Friday morning with a cold front arriving from the north. Several forecast models indicate the potential for light snow, but these have recently trended down.
“For now, the more optimistic solutions only highlight a 20 to 30 percent chance of one inch of snowfall, with more pessimistic solutions keeping this scenario under a 10 percent chance,” the National Weather Service – North Platte noted in a forecast discussion.
Still, highs through the weekend are only expected to be in the teens to the single digits or below zero.
