HASTINGS — A Cold Weather Advisory has been issued across all south-central Nebraska from Friday, Jan. 23 through Sunday, Jan. 25.
According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, the advisory will be in effect from midnight tonight until 12 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25.
Wind chills of 15 to 25 degrees below zero will be possible during the overnight and morning hours, they will also remain below zero during the afternoon hours on Friday and Saturday. The coldest overall temperatures will be north of Interstate 80.
“The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves,” per NWS Hastings.
“Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make sure outdoor animals have warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water,” NWS Hastings stated.
There is an increasing chance for at least light snow accumulation Friday into Saturday. Nebraska counties may see around one to three inches. However, dry air aloft could result in lower accumulations further north.
The majority of accumulating snow is expected to occur from 12 p.m. on Friday through 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Winds will be out of the east and not overly strong, sustained at 5-15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. This should result in only minor blowing or drifting of fluffy snow.
