AURORA — A 22-year-old Marquette woman was found not guilty of murder in the death of a three-month-old infant after a weeklong trial in Hamilton County on Wednesday, Jan. 28.
Tiffany Cure, had been charged with first degree murder, a Class 1A felony and commit intentional child abuse – death, a Class 1B felony.
Cure had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The jury trial in the case began on Jan. 21, the state rested its case on Jan. 27. Following three hours of deliberation on Jan. 28, the jury returned with a verdict of not guilty on both counts.
The case stemmed from an incident that occurred on Aug. 6, 2024, where a three-month-old infant was reported unresponsive in the block of 100 Lynn St. in Marquette.
Live saving measures were undertaken on the infant and they were later taken to the Aurora Memorial Hospital by ambulance. The infant was later pronounced deceased and an autopsy was ordered.
An autopsy later determined the infant had two severe skull fractures.
Cure was determined to have been the infant’s babysitter at the time of the incident and was taken in for questioning.
Law enforcement believed that Cure was responsible for the fatal injuries to the infant and placed her under arrest on Aug. 22.
Hamilton County Attorney Douglas Dexter made the following statement: “Our hearts go out to Stormi and her family, but we respect the verdict of the jury.”
