According to the National Weather Service – Hastings, the warning has been issued for Dawson, Gosper, Phelps, Furnas and Harlan counties from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The threat is critical fire weather conditions driven by southeast winds at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Relative humidity amounts could drop as low as 16 percent in some areas.
Any fire that develops will spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
