GRAND ISLAND — Grand Island Central Catholic’s girls won all four positions to capture the team title at Thursday’s home tennis invitational played on the Ryder Park and Grand Island Senior High courts.

The Crusaders tallied 24 points to outdistance second-place Waverly 24-17. York was third with 11 points.

At No. 1 singles, GICC’s Maddie Graybill finished 4-0 in the round-robin format. Graybill defeated Waverly’s Tessa Cockerill 9-7 in what proved to be the deciding match.

Central Catholic’s Emily Ye also produced a 4-0 record to capture the No. 2 singles title. Ye defeated second-place Kara Brekke of York 8-1 in their head-to-head matchup.

The Crusaders’ No. 1 doubles tandem of Arushi Birthi and Abbie Connick went 4-0 on their way to a first-place finish. Birthi and Connick breezed past second-place Waverly’s Anna Johnson and Kolbee Kroemer 8-1 in their de facto championship match.

At No. 2 doubles, Ella Arens and Izzy Mueller also went 4-0 to take first place for Central Catholic. Again, it was the GICC-Waverly match that decided it with the Crusaders posting an 8-1 win over Landon Rohlfs and Madi Schwarten.
