UNK MEN’S BASKETBALL ADDS KIRKWOOD TRANSFER:

Nebraska-Kearney head men’s basketball coach Kevin Lofton announced today that guard Jaleque Dunson will hit the hardwood for the Lopers this winter.

The 6-3, 190-pound native of Sioux City, Ia., is UNK’s eighth newcomer to date. Including his “COVID year”, he has three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Dunson spent the past two years at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Ia. For an Eagles team that went 23-8 in 2021-22, Dunson came in at 8.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists a night. Appearing in all 31 games with 21 starts, he sunk the second most threes (58) on the team, shot 83% from the line and had 12 double digit efforts.

REVELLE EXTENDED THROUGH 2026:

Huskers Head Softball Coach Rhonda Revelle has received a one-year contract extension through the 2026 season.

A Nebraska graduate, Revelle completed her 30th season as the Huskers’ head coach in 2022, leading her team to a 41-16 record, the Big Ten Conference Tournament title and an appearance in the NCAA Stillwater Regional. Revelle and her staff were named the 2022 Midwest Region Coaching Staff of the Year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

Revelle has amassed a 1,061-623 record at Nebraska. She has won more games than any other coach in Nebraska history and is the only Husker head coach in any sport to reach the 1,000-win milestone. In her 30 seasons leading the program, Revelle has won eight conference titles while leading the Huskers to 21 NCAA Tournaments, three Women’s College World Series appearances and 15 top-20 national finishes.

FINA RESTRICTS TRANSGENDER WOMEN FROM COMPETITION:

The world governing body for swimming effectively barred transgender women from the highest levels of women’s international competition, intensifying a debate over gender and sports that has roiled state legislatures and increasingly divided parents, athletes and coaches at all levels.

The vote by FINA, which administers international competitions in water sports, prohibits transgender women from competing unless they began medical treatments to suppress production of testosterone before going through one of the early stages of puberty, or by age 12, whichever occurred later. It establishes one of the strictest rules against transgender participation in international sports. Scientists believe the onset of male puberty gives transgender women a lasting, irreversible physical advantage over athletes who were female at birth.

World swimming would also establish a new, “open” category for athletes who identify as women but do not meet the requirement to compete against people who were female at birth.
