Kearney Police have given more information surround an arrest that transpired during a Nebraska GOP Convention at the Younes Conference Center over the weekend.

On Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 10:55 a.m., Kearney Police responded to a call of a disturbance at the Kearney Younes Conference Center. Upon arrival officers were informed that 51-year-old Mathew Innis, of Crete Nebraska, attempted to force his way inside the conference center, pushing a security officer to the ground after being denied from attending by the organizer.

According to the involved security officer and multiple witnesses, Mr. Innis had approached the main entrance of the conference and demanded entry. The security guard attempted to block Mr. Innis, then which he tackled the guard to the ground. Mr. Innis was placed into custody.

Mr. Innis was then placed under arrest for third degree assault, and second degree assault, both misdemeanors. Mr. Innis was lodged in Buffalo County Jail, but was able to post bond after the booking process and released from the custody of the jail the same day.
