REIMER NAMED TO BEDNARIK WATCH LIST:

Nebraska junior linebacker Luke Reimer was named to his second watch list for a major national award as he was announced as one of 90 players named to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list.

The Bednarik Award is presented annually to the outstanding defensive player in college football.

A Lincoln native, Reimer is coming off a 2021 season when he started every game and became the first Husker in three years to record 100 tackles in a season. He led Nebraska with 108 tackles in 2021 with 6.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, six pass breakups and one interception.

HUSKER VOLLEYBALL PICKED SECOND IN PRESEASON POLL; THREE NAMED ALL-BIG TEN:

Three members of the Nebraska volleyball team were named to the Preseason All-Big Ten Team on Monday.

Kaitlyn Hord, Madi Kubik and Lexi Rodriguez were all voted to the 15-player preseason team by the conference’s head coaches. All three were All-Big Ten First Team selections last year. Kubik was the only player in the Big Ten unanimously chosen to the preseason all-conference team.

Additionally, the Huskers were picked second in the preseason poll behind defending national champion Wisconsin. Minnesota was third, followed by Ohio State and Penn State.

HUSKER MONDAY PRACTICE COMMENTS:

WHIPPLE – OFFENSE IS CONTINUING TO GET BETTER:

New offensive coordinator for the Nebraska Football team Mark Whipple spoke to the media after Monday’s practice and added that his offense has continued to get better from spring ball…

Whipple looks to bring more efficiency to the offense that led the Big Ten in big plays of over 20+ yards, but failed to reach bowl eligibility losing in nine single digit losses.

WHIPPLE – COACHES FITTING TOGETHER:

The Nebraska Football offense will look new this coming season under new offensive coordinator Mark Whipple. Whipple is joined by new offensive coaches Mickey Joseph at receiver, Donovan Raiola at the offensive line, and Bryan Applewhite at running backs…

Whipple comes from Pittsburgh leading the Panthers to a top offensive finish in the ACC last season; Joseph arrives from LSU after having four receivers drafted in the first three rounds of the past three NFL drafts.

WHIPPLE – ROTATION GOING AT OFFENSIVE LINE:

Offensive Coordinator for the Huskers Mark Whipple spoke to the media after Monday’s practice session and spoke a bit on the depth of his pipeline to start fall camp…

The Huskers have to replace three former starters on the offensive line for the upcoming season.

WHIPPLE – THOMPSON GETTING MORE ACCLIMATED TO PLAYBOOK:

Texas transfer quarterback Casey Thompson opened fall camp for the Huskers as the No. 1 spot behind center and has continually improved everyday according to offensive coordinator Mark Whipple…

Thompson has the most experience of the group of quarterbacks; however, the freshman Richard Torres has reportedly impressed with the strongest arm in fall camp.

WHIPPLE – OFFENSE IS TAKING A STEP FORWARD FROM SUMMER:

Offensive Coordinator Mark Whipple spoke after Monday’s practice and said it has been a big leap since spring camp…

Whipple and the Huskers open their season against Northwestern on August 27 in Ireland.

JOSEPH – RECEIVER ROOM COMING TOGETHER:

New receivers coach Mickey Joseph rattled off where the Big Red receivers are after Monday’s practice session…

Joseph stated he’s ready to find six receivers to roll with throughout the season for regular rotations in game.

JOSEPH – RECEIVERS ARE READY TO WORK:

Mickey Joseph has kept the same message since joining the Huskers coaching staff: his receivers will work hard. Joseph continued that sentiment after Monday’s practice…

Joseph has plenty of veteran receivers ready to see action again: including Omar Manning, Alante Brown, Brody Belt and others along with newcomers Marcus Washington and Trey Palmer.

JOSEPH – RECEIVERS READY TO WORK WITH QUARTERBACK:

New receivers coach Mickey Joseph is not worried about who the starting quarterback will be for the Huskers, as he stated after Monday’s practice his receivers will be ready…

Joseph stated he’s been impressed so far by Omar Manning, Alante Brown, Trey Palmer, Marcus Washington, Oliver Martin, and more.

BROWNS’ WATSON SUSPENDED FOR SIX GAMES:

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson was suspended without pay for six games Monday for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy following accusations of sexual misconduct made against him by two dozen women in Texas, two people familiar with the decision said.

The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the decision had not been publicly released. Watson, who played for four seasons with Houston before being traded to Cleveland in March, recently settled 23 of 24 lawsuits filed by women alleging sexual harassment and assault during massage therapy appointments in 2020 and 2021.

The NFL has three days to appeal the decision by disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson. The NFL Players’ Association already stated it would abide by her ruling. If either side appeals, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell or someone he designates will make the decision, per terms of the collective bargaining agreement. The union then could try to challenge that ruling in federal court.
