BEARCAT FOOTBALL – LOOKING FORWARD TO FALL CAMP:
The Kearney Bearcats look to build off their 4-6 season last year that ended in a playoff berth and first round exit at Elkhorn South. Bearcat seniors Justin Murray and Treyven Beckman sounded off on what they are looking forward to most coming into practice next week…
Murray is a returning starter and rotating edge rusher for Kearney, while Beckman is expected to take over the starting quarterback role for the Bearcats this fall.

LOPER GOLFERS FINISH IN TOP 14 IN THE NEBRASKA AMATEUR’S:
Loper Junior Allison Comer finished third and sophomore Brooke King placed tied for 14th at the 48th annual Nebraska Women’s Amateur Championships Wednesday at Wilderness Ridge in Lincoln.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament brought together some of the top amateurs from around the area. The field consisted of 34 golfers many of whom star on their college and high school teams or who recently finished up collegiate careers.
Comer (Overland Park, Kan.) turned in a 5-over par 218 (68-76-74) with King, also from Overland Park, managing a 234 (73-82-79). She was one of four golfers to tie for 14th place.
NFL APPEALS WATSON DECISION:
The NFL is seeking an indefinite suspension of at least one year plus a fine in appealing a disciplinary officer’s decision to suspend Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson for six games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.
Watson would be required to undergo treatment before he could be reinstated. The league initially recommended an $8 million fine and asked during settlement negotiations for at least a $5 million fine plus a 12-game suspension that never materialized.
The NFL’s appeal gives Commissioner Roger Goodell or someone he designates authority to impose a stiffer penalty. League spokesman Brian McCarthy said it’s still to be determined whether Goodell or someone else will hear the appeal.
Former federal judge Sue L. Robinson issued her ruling Monday after Watson was accused by two dozen women in Texas of sexual misconduct during massage treatments while he played for the Houston Texans.

Brown expects to contribute in the receiver room and on special teams for the Big Red this fall.
LIV GOLFERS MICKELSON, OTHERS SUE PGA TOUR OVER SUSPENSIONS:
Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau and nine other players who defected to the Saudi-funded LIV Golf filed an antitrust lawsuit Wednesday against the PGA Tour, the first step in a legal fight that could define the boundaries of where players can compete.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco, claims the PGA Tour has used monopoly power to try to squash competition and has unfairly suspended players.
A separate motion was filed asking for a temporary restraining order to allow Talor Gooch, Matt Jones and Hudson Swafford to play in the FedEx Cup playoffs, the PGA Tour’s postseason, which begins next week.
The lawsuit also revealed that PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan suspended Mickelson for two months in March for his role in recruiting players to LIV Golf.
