LINCOLN, Nebraska (August 5, 2022) — September 4-10 is National Suicide Prevention Week. Region V Systems, Faith Partners, the Prevention Leadership Team and School Community Intervention and Prevention (SCIP), will host QPR Gatekeeper Training sessions starting on September 4.

QPR stands for Question, Persuade and Refer—three simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. QPR saves lives by providing innovative, practical, and proven suicide prevention training. QPR trains ordinary people to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and then to question, persuade and refer someone for help.

A Gatekeeper is anyone who can recognize warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide. Gatekeepers include parents, friends, neighbors, co-workers and others who can identify someone at risk of suicide and refer them to services that will help keep them safe for now.

QPR-trained Gatekeepers can:

  • Recognize the warning signs of suicide
  • Know how to offer hope
  • Know how to get help and save a life

To become a QPR Gatekeeper, attend one of the free 90-minute training sessions between September 4 and 13. This training is a great opportunity for anyone in Southeast Nebraska to learn to ask a question and save a life.
