FORMER BEARCAT and HUSKER MAHER SIGNED TO COWBOYS:
The Cowboys are signing kicker Brett Maher following his Tuesday workout at the team’s training camp in Oxnard.
Following a four-man tryout, Maher will compete against CFL standout Lirim Hajrullahu as the Cowboys set the reunion with Maher.
Maher spent the 2018 and 2019 seasons in Dallas, making 80.6 percent and 66.7 percent of his field goals. He jumped to 88.9 percent last season (16-of-18) with the Saints.
NEW HUSKER TRANSFERS CLEARED FOR FALL CAMP; JOIN TEAM IN LINCOLN:
A pair of late additions to the Huskers roster for the fall have officially joined the Big Red in fall camp.
On Monday, Nebraska announced that former Florida State and UCF defensive back Brandon Moore is joining the program. Moore played for Coach Frost and defensive backs coach Travis Fisher in 2017 while in Central Florida. He’s a former multi-year starter who suffered a significant knee injury forcing him to miss his 2019 and 2020 seasons.
Meanwhile, Texas Tech defensive tackle transfer Devin Drew made his way to Lincoln on Tuesday evening, as the junior should join Nebraska for Wednesday practice. In 12 starts, Drew posted 55 tackles and 10 quarterback hurries.

The Huskers will have another scrimmage later in fall camp prior to their departure to Ireland before facing Northwestern on August 27.
ESPN REJECTS BIG TEN OFFER FOR MEDIA RIGHTS:
ESPN has reportedly ended contract discussions with the Big Ten after rejecting the conference’s latest proposal, which was for a seven-year, $380 million extension.
The Sports Business Journal reported the update Tuesday, one day after the New York Post noted the Big Ten was closing in on agreements with CBS, Fox and NBC worth over $1 billion in total.
ESPN’s current deal with the Big Ten checked in at $190 million, and the extension talks didn’t include guarantees for the conference’s top games.
If talks aren’t reopened, it’ll mark the first time in 40 years that ESPN won’t carry coverage of Big Ten football or basketball.
SERENA WILLIAMS SAYS “COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN” FOR RETIREMENT:
Saying “the countdown has begun,” 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams announced Tuesday she is ready to step away from tennis so she can turn her focus to having another child and her business interests, presaging the end of a career that transcended sports.
In an essay released Tuesday by Vogue magazine, and a post on Instagram Williams was not completely clear on the timeline for her last match, but she made it sound as if that could be at the U.S. Open, which begins Aug. 29 in New York.
